SJA Summer 2017 Season

Registration Now Open!

SJA Water Polo is excited to announce our Summer 2017 Season! We kick off on Monday, May 15, and run weekly practices and tournament play through July 30. For Summer we offer training and tournament play for all levels — from beginner to advanced. We have High School “A” and “B” practice groups (Boys and Girls), 14U Boys and 12U Boys, 14U and 12U Girls, and a 10U Coed group. At SJA we focus on learning the game, improving skillsets, gaining gameplay experience, and for our more advanced players, competing at a high level.

Summer Season is our biggest season of the year. We enter boys and girls 18U, 16U, 14U, 12U and 10U teams in local tournaments (typically based in San Jose area, and sometimes in East Bay or Santa Cruz). Our advanced High School teams also participate in out-of-town events. And most notably, we are entering teams to compete in the USA Water Polo National Junior Olympic Qualifiers (held in June — see tourney schedule link below). Last year we had multiple girls and a boys team qualify. This year, qualifying teams will travel down to Orange County for JOs, scheduled for July 22-25 (boys) and July 27-30 (girls).

Also, SJA will be returning to Oregon this year for the Oregon Open Water Tournament on July 10-13. This was definitely a top highlight for our players and families last year! We will bring four high school-age teams (2 boys teams and 2 girls teams) to camp, play water polo in a beautiful lake setting, and for parents, cheer them on! If you are interested, please indicate so in the registration form. Space will be limited, and our coaches will be setting our teams early in the Summer season.

Finally, it’s important to note that our club always welcomes new players. This includes beginners, and also includes swim team/cabana club participants! One of the most gratifying developments we’ve seen at SJA is a lot of new players coming in to try the sport. In particular, we are seeing a lot of new players who come from local swim and cabana club teams. Obviously, strong swimming skills translates very nicely to water polo. And at SJA, we schedule our age group practices in the afternoon to avoid conflicts with cabana club practice. We also strive to enter age group tourney play on Sunday (when possible) to help avoid conflicts with swim meets.

SJA Summer Practice Schedules – see the Practice Schedule for times and locations for each group.

An important note: Last season we saw record registrations and turnout. We can reach a point where we need to close registrations due to space. Sign up now! And at latest, please have your registration in by Wednesday May 10. But again, we recommend sooner the better due to space.

Registration is now open! All can be done from this form with links. See you at the pool!

    Hi,
I have an 11 year old daughter finishing up her soccer season and interested to learn water polo. She is 11. Are there still spots to sign up for the summer? She is a beginner at water polo but would like to learn with kids in her age group.

    Thanks!

      Mary,

We have space for more girls in the 11-14 group. It would be a beginner/intermediate group and most have just started playing. If you have any questions you can email at sjawaterpolo@gmail.com.

      Sincerely,
