Strong Showing for SJA at Jr. Olympics!
The SJA Water Polo Club sent a record seven teams to the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics competition, held July 19 – 27 in Orange County, CA. The SJA 16U Girls team finished an impressive 16th in the Championship Platinum Division, against the top club teams in the nation. The 18U Girls team finished 6th in the Championship Gold Division. The 14U Girls team placed 11th in the Championship Gold Division. The SJA Boys 12U team won the Gold Medal with a thrilling shootout overtime victory in the Classic Bronze division. The 16U Boys team finished in the top half of the Invitational Division. The 14U Boys team also competed in Invitational Division. Finally, for the first time, SJA sent a 10U CoEd team, which finished 18th in the Championship Gold Division.
“We are really proud of all of our teams,” said Eric Rise, Head Coach at SJA Water Polo. “This tournament features the top age group water polo teams in the nation. The kids work hard, competed well, and had a great experience.”
“We have seen tremendous growth with our club, and were excited to qualify so many teams for the Junior Olympics,” said Cyrus Kahangi, SJA Water Polo Coach. “For many players, this was their first experience playing at a national tournament. Everyone responded really well, and had a great time!”
